In this episode of Work in Progress, Gary Shapiro, president & CEO of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), joins me to talk about the world's biggest tech event – the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023 – underway this week in Las Vegas. More than 100-thousand people are expected at CES to get a look at what's ahead for us in 2023 and beyond from more than 1,000 exhibitors. "What we're going to see is the growth of so many categories such as digital health and EV (electric vehicles) and all the different transportation alternatives. It's one of the largest car shows in the world, along with the whole ecosystem and new technologies that are coming, which the car companies are relying on," says Shapiro. He says there will be a lot of focus on artificial intelligence, virtual reality, cybersecurity, food security, agriculture, sustainability, and entertainment.

LAS VEGAS - Ivanka Trump delivered a keynote address amid controversy at the Consumer Electronics Show Tuesday, touting innovation as an engine for U.S. job growth. The White House senior adviser, whose appearance at CES had sparked a backlash in parts of the tech community, came on stage to applause and cheers. Speaking to Gary Shapiro, president of the Consumer Technology Association, which organizes CES, Trump discussed advances in technology, artificial intelligence and promoted the reskilling older workers, training them in new skills or careers to get better jobs. "Innovation cannot be bridled," she said. "I also believe that innovation is a net job producer."
Ivanka Trump speaks in CES keynote address at CES 2020 in Las Vegas
Ivanka Trump laid out her vision for the future of work and technology's role in reshaping the American economy and workforce in the coming decades during a controversial'fireside chat' at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) on Tuesday. Speaking the Venetian's Pallazo Ballroom - which just a night prior had been used to launch a slew of new robots and artificial intelligence by Samsung - Trump chose to focus on the business implications of technology. Trump said she had'no sympathy' for companies that complain about unskilled workforces, don't invest in're-skilling them,' and still lay off employees. While the president's daughter's talking points centered mainly on business, she said she believes that innovations like'robotic arms' would create jobs that aren't yet possible. Prior to her keynote, tech industry insiders hit out at the conference, questioning whether the White House advisor was a relevant speaker, but CES President and CEO, Gary Shapiro defended her presence and moderated her talk, entitled'The Path to the Future of Work.' Dressed smartly in pinstripes (left), Trump said she has'no sympathy' for employers who don't're-skill' their workers as she laid out her'vision' for the future workforce of the US and hit back at companies over layoffs Trump plugged the government panel she co-chairs, the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board - which includes members from Apple, and IBM - and took the private sector to task for their role in helping to train current members of the workforce.
Why the tech world is on steroids - Vanguard News
IT is no longer news that Nigeria is in a serious recession with a very high misery index. So, as year 2016 Christmas approached, those living in the country were advised by experts in money management to conserve whatever little funds they had at their disposal. They particularly advised that folks should stay at home, travel less, spend less, cut out on luxury items and save more, as the economic headwinds in the country will continue well into 2017. So, I struggled to convince myself to stay put at home for the Christmas and New Year. However, the allure of the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) was too strong for me to resist, thus compelling me to set out for the CES 2017, which is hosted annually in the city of Las Vegas, United States of America.
